Workplace safety awards 2001The Faculty of Science Safety Award for Workgroups for 2001 has been awarded to a laboratory team of four in Psychology. Under the guidance and direction of Associate Professor Steve Robinson, the members of the laboratory work as a cohesive team with an awareness of occupational health and safety issues unprecedented within the Department of Psychology. Ms Glenda Bishop and Ms Malia Dixon are students in the laboratory and Ms Elena Hartley provides technical expertise to the group. The group has been found to respond rapidly to any safety issues raised within the laboratory or that arise externally, thus achieving a high level of compliance with relevant Monash University occupational health and safety policies, government legislation and codes of practice. The laboratory team members have excellent work practices, essential when the work involves highly toxic substances and biohazardous materials. This high standard is maintained consistently as all laboratory members are committed to disseminating good work practices amongst themselves and especially to new members of the research team. Further evidence of good laboratory practice by the team is the maintenance of a high standard of house keeping at all times. The award includes lunch in the Private Dining Room of the Monash University Club, who generously co-sponsor the lunch with the Faculty of Science. |
